"Weight Loss Information You Can Trust"

You may have had your share of fad diets over the years. You feel as if you've tried everything, and still your weight is a problem. This is why it's so critically important that you obtain weight loss information you can trust. It's crucial, not only for your appearance, but for your health as well.

Any diet you choose should either enable you to lose weight or to maintain your BMI in what's considered to be the healthy range. The best diet is one that incorporates foods from all food groups, but relies heavily on fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Your diet should also include the lowest levels of saturated fat, trans fat, and cholesterol. The total amount of fat you eat everyday should be between 20 to 35 percent of your overall calories. Most of the fat you consume should consist of polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fatty acids, including fish, nuts, and vegetable oils.

At this point, you may have some questions about fats. Both monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats raise your good cholesterol levels while helping to keep bad cholesterol levels under control. Examples of monounsaturated fats include canola, olive oil, and avocados, while polyunsaturated fats include sunflower seeds and sesame seeds. In contrast, saturated fat, trans fatty acids, and dietary cholesterol increase your bad cholesterol levels, causing heart disease. Saturated fat sources include beef, pork, whole milk, cheese, and coconut. Trans fatty acids (TFA) are most often found in fried food, cookies, and crackers. Interestingly enough, the Food and Drug Administration is now considering forcing manufacturers to indicate TFA content on their labels, and some manufacturers are considering removing TFA from their foods.

Whole grains are also important because they contain fiber, which can be important to your overall health. You should limit the amount of sugar you consume. That means going easy on candy, cookies, cupcakes, pie, and cakes. You may also be surprised to learn that you should eat no more than one teaspoon of salt each day. If you drink alcohol, limit your intake to one alcoholic beverage each day.

If you follow this general recipe of weight loss information, you should find that the pounds melt away. As an added bonus, you may discover you have more energy and are better able to handle the challenges, especially the physical challenges that come your way.
