Lifetime fitness requires dedication. Life-long health and fitness is a commitment to a lifestyle alteration to live a more contented and healthier life.

Sadly, 33% of high school students do not partake of the suggested quantity of health and fitness activities put out by the Surgeon General. This activity deficiency in fitness programs often carries into adulthood where the number of persons without regular fitness programs swells.

According to a life-time fitness report by the National Institute on Aging, only 58% of Americans engage in fitness programs that involve vital activity and, of those people, only 26% exercise 3 or more times per week.

So how does a lifetime exercise and fitness program improve quality of life? The CDC provides the following top five annual causes of death in the United States.

* Heart disease: 696,947 deaths

* Cancer: 557,271 deaths

* Stroke: 162,672 deaths

* Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 124,816 deaths

* Accidents (unintentional injuries): 106,742 deaths

With the exception of accidental deaths, all leading forms of death could have been circumvented or postponed with a fitness program that included exercise, a healthy diet, and non-smoking.
